The Manager's Position on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described Celtic as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"I have not had such conversations," the London-born former Irish youth international said when questioned about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I have a special position here at a special club. And we're at a crucial phase of the season. Everything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the case, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

Bellamy played for Celtic on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales forward is minded to complete the ongoing World Cup campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of making those, thanks to a successful European competition performance, should they fail to finish as their group second place.

Considering his current stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the earliest.
