The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed England's top flight last season, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; No need for interviews repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for his teammates too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
