Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
