JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Strives to Fix the Series' Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original film. Instead, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen action franchise serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season stitched together with the initial episodes of its upcoming season, which begins the Culling Games storyline from the manga series. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the quickest way to watch the start of the upcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The feature launches in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Games storyline, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the show and is assigned by jujutsu officials to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle takes place for the first time on the big screen, and if the artists at Mappa have something as special as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for fans this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the gift that fans have anticipated.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap episodes" from the second season is widely regarded as one of the greatest sequences in the history of anime, notwithstanding all the controversy in last year when the installments originally aired. It was claimed that the creators were facing tight schedules to the point, and the final version that aired at the time was incomplete and supposedly not what the artists first envisioned.

The Intense Confrontation

The scene features a much-hyped confrontation between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes unique visual techniques, masterful camera work, and thrilling combat. A follow-up home video edition allowed the team to insert new moments to flesh out the battle. So it seemed possible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, viewing the new trailer, it's unclear if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a scene of that magnitude has to be seen on the cinema screen with the finest quality available.

Season Two Success

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were released back to back, it was the subject of discussion for weeks in the series' fanbase. Viewers were aware of the production challenges, which made them admire what they saw even more. People clamored to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would feature extra content to the fight or to see if it was improved in any way, and were thrilled to see just that, alongside tone adjustments, enhanced animation, and different color grading.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the home video can only touch up what has initially broadcast in the original airing, whereas the movie has the opportunity to fully realize the scene with more adjustments and new animations entirely.

A Magnum Opus

As it stands, these pair of installments act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the animation team, notably because of the issues they underwent at the time. It's drawn the focus of anime fans all over the globe, and the Culling Games is a much-expected plotline of the following year. If the studio wants to kick off the year perfectly, showcase the series' best moment once again in cinemas with the finest version we've experienced so far.
